How to increase sales and drive traffic to your website is probably the question I get asked the most by retail and product businesses.
So this week’s podcast we chat all about increasing your brand awareness through your own direct efforts and outreach. From social media, newsletters, keywords and outreach.
Listen in on how you can increase sales below or read the abbreviated show notes:
Firstly you want to increase sales through two methods:
- Driving traffic to your website through social media, newsletters, outreach and events.
- Increase brand awareness through your own direct efforts and outreach.
Increase sales in seven different ways
Optimise your website
- Have good photography as this is what the customer sees. They can’t see your product in person so they rely on imagery. Show your product off in the best light!
- Use clear product collections and name them appropriately.
- This helps with SEO and Google searches.
- Use Google analytics so you can see top pages and referrals
- Update your website weekly so you keep ranking in Google.
- Create new weekly CTA banners on your homepage highlighting different products.
SEO
- Use keywords that describe your product.
- Use your key words in the product title and the first 50 words of your product descriptions to increase your ranking.
- Don’t keyword stuff.
- Keywords are key for being found on online marketplaces.
- Use ERank for Etsy
Blog
- Use your market research, content ideas and purpose statement to create your content.
- Create value for your audience and customers.
- Think about keywords that people are searching for and use this for content.
- Reuse current Instagram captions to make blog posts.
- Repurpose!
- Make your blog posts between 500-1,600 words.

- Canva has some great templates for this.
- The platform favours new content that you create.
- Tie this in with your blog and social media plan.
- Claim your website and Instagram on Pinterest.
- Create vertical pins.
- Pinterest is a long game and will take time.
Influencers & outreach
- Review who has spoken about you before what what has resulted in follows and sales.
- Analyse why is this?
- Work out who else can you work with and shares the same audience and values as these people.
- Can you do takeovers, podcast, blog features with these influencers?
- Engage with them first to develop a relationship – don’t go in cold.
- Look at micro influences.
- Check engagement on their sponsored posts.
