Have you been Christmas comp shopping yet? Christmas is the ideal time to go comp shopping and check out what’s going on to inform your product development for 2019.
And the shops are full of festive goodness! If you can’t get out as you’re too busy with orders then I’ve rounded up some of my favourite Christmas Comp Shopping 2018 trends for you to be inspired by on the Elevate Your Curiosity podcast. Listen in either below,  iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify or read the show notes.
Winter Wooded Wonderland
Woodland creatures in rustic forests were seen in the windows at Anthropologie. White trees with textured bark and feathers were the backdrop to gold metallic gifts.
The woodland theme ran through all the shops as it’s been popular for many years now. An update of oversized toadstools was seen in Liberty and cockerels in John Lewis.
Metallics
Pale rose gold is the new metallic I’ve seen for this festive season. Much lighter than copper, and oh so pretty and delicate. This shade would make a gorgeous addition to decorations or gifts.
Lots of mother of pearl finishes were also seen which adds a luxe touch inspired by nature.
Rocking Christmas
Rock stars are the inspiration behind Selfridges music themed visual merchandising this year. With Bowie inspired Santa’s in store and lots of headline-worthy gifts – it’s worth popping in-store to marvel at the visual feast Selfridges have created this year.
Personalisation
Personalised gifts are still a go-to gift for Christmas. Selfridges has a range in store from baubles, sacks, scarfs and champagne. And John Lewis has added personalised Quality Street where you can personalise the tin and pick your favourite chocolates!
Top tip – although not personalised adult advents are still
trending and I saw lots of alcohol-related ones on the high street.
Mexican
Mexican Christmas is a trend I picked up in 2015 while at notonthehighstreet.com. And Liberty featured a range of Mexican inspired Day of the Dead and exotic fruit baubles in their Christmas shop this year.
Christmas adverts
You can’t have missed the Elton John advent for John Lewis and how one special gift can change the course of a child’s life. John Lewis has made is so you can step into the ad at in their London flagship store and they are also selling vintage Elton John t-shirts.
Another advert that made me smile was Visa. They’re supporting your local high street by featuring small businesses singing Mariah Carey ‘All I want for Christmas is you’. It’s really touching and great to see big businesses supporting the independents.
So that’s the Christmas Comp Shopping 2018 trends I’ve picked out. What have you spotted? I’d love to hear so do let me know over on Instagram.
