A Slow Valentine’s

This first trend taps into the slow movement of taking care of our planet and creating less waste. There is a move towards more crafted, handmade and natural elements in design. Think small gestures instead of grand statements. Back to basics so gifts are heartfelt, thoughtful and sentimental.

Materials

  • Natural materials
  • Cracked and crackled surfaces for added texture
  • Matt finishes
  • Dried appearance

Designs & patterns

  • Blending designs styles such as Scandi & Japanese = Scandinese
  • Handmade details
  • Linear drawings

Colours

  • Bleached peach
  • Greyed lilac
  • Warm cream
  • Terracotta
  • Washed out white

Product ideas

  • Dried or wild flower bouquets
  • Small gestures and keepsake gifts
  • Unisex gifts that can be for him or her
  • Natural beauty for him and her
  • Thoughtful touches – hidden personalisation and personalisation that is more than a name
  • Spending time together – experiences instead of gifts

Mystic Love

Magic continues to seep into the mainstream with tarot cards and crystals becoming the new normal. People are drawn to a bit of woo to guide them in life as well as offer some comfort. Think about how these mystic references can be connected to products to offer customers a deeper meaning in their gifting.

Materials

  • Raw and polished crystals
  • Metallic finishes
  • Tarnished effects
  • Smoked glass surfaces
  • Melted and molten look in metals and ceramics

Designs & patterns

  • Tarot symbols
  • Moons, stars, planets and constellations
  • Celestial inspired motifs, patterns and geometrics

Colours

  • Move away from the traditional deep and rich colours associated with mystic products
  • Dusky pink
  • Soft apricot
  • Sage green
  • Lavender

Product ideas

  • Celestial inspired jewellery for him and her
  • Love notes with hidden messages and meanings
  • Crystals used in home accessories, beauty, fragrance and fashion accessories
  • Gifts that focus on the deeper meaning, energy and connection between a couple

Retro Romance

During times of uncertainty, people look back to the ‘good old days’ for comfort. Seeing them in a positive and romantic light. Retro romance looks at key eras such as the roaring ’20s, classic Hollywood glamour and sentimental gifts such as 80’s mix tapes and passing love notes in class.

Materials

  • Pearlescent finishes
  • Gold and brass
  • Resin
  • Addition of scent

Designs & patterns

  • Mini and oversized hearts
  • Animal prints that are abstracted – Snake, tortoiseshell, zebra, tiger prints (not just leopard)
  • Quirky illustrations if you’re tapping into the decades 80s-00s

Colours

  • Rich and warm hues
  • Teal
  • Mulberry red
  • Shimmering white
  • Violet

Product ideas

  • Glamorous jewellery that features gemstones, pearlescent details and gold
  • Stylised floral arrangements
  • Adding scent and fragrance to products for a multi sensory experience
  • Beauty products with elevated packaging that you want to show off
  • Don’t forget gifts for friends for Palentine’s and Galentine’s Day on 13 February
